Designing an office for a business in the architectural industry can be a unique and daunting task. OTJ Architects and lighting products from Inter-lux/Whitegoods rose to meet this challenge.
The 24,000-square-foot National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) headquarters in Washington, DC has many interesting architectural elements woven in to the design. One of these features is a custom wall graphic comprised of the seals of 55 licensing boards, which honors legendary architectural accomplishments such as the Lincoln Memorial and The Chrysler Building. The new space is LEED Gold and Fitwel building standard certified and its design earned OTJ an award from the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the International Interior Design Association.
Whitegoods lighting was implemented to highlight and define the main lobby, conference rooms, café and open workspaces. These versatile luminaires are designed to blend with adjoining surfaces to provide illumination and accentuate architectural elements.
The Whitegoods 60 Square Downlight is a 2.4 inch square recessed luminaire available with bezel trim or trimless ‘plaster-in’ for absolute minimal visual impact. A flush glass diffuser allows this fixture to be used in outdoor applications under a canopy.
20 Linear Surface and 20 Linear Plaster Trim both feature a continuous, evenly illuminated snap-in lens with field replaceable LED boards. A standard opal diffuser is offered for even illumination and no LED appearance. A satin diffuser is also an option for high efficiency and minimal LED appearance. Both standard and custom corners are possible and lengths and angles are factory cut to exact field dimensions.
NCARB’s new space pays tribute to architectural pioneers and lays a solid foundation for the future accomplishments of its members.
