Workplace design has evolved in recent years to inspire wellness in professional environments and Linea Light is proud to have contributed lighting to Norfolk Southern’s innovative new headquarters. The state-of-the-art building for the transportation company’s operations, technology and corporate team members was designed by HOK and the lighting was selected by One Lux Studio. The 750,000-square-foot space encourages physical activity, collaboration and wellness though strategic and thoughtful design. Features of this workplace include universal Wi-Fi, a fitness center, retractable walls, walking paths and a food hall.

Norfolk Southern’s Atlanta headquarters consists of two office towers joined by a five-story podium that houses the lobby, amenities, and parking. The 32-foot-high lobby inspired the decision to create a spectacular spiral staircase to be a focal point of the space. A corkscrew-shaped stairway constructed of Corian-clad steel and illuminated by Linea Light Group’s Rubber product connects the second floor to the fourth floor and serves as a functional sculpture that symbolizes motion and movement.

Rubber comprises a variety of strip solutions with flexible adhesive circuits, making it suitable for indoor and outdoor applications. Its flexible body contains a polyurethane resin diffuser that creates eye catching and perfectly uniform lines of light. The circuit is specifically designed to allow rapid passage of heat from one layer to another. This factor, combined with the use of high-efficiency components, helps dissipate the heat generated, which allows Rubber to be applied on multiple surfaces to create all kinds of imaginative lighting installations. The flexibility of Rubber made it the ideal choice for accentuating the sinuous lines of this staircase.
